Dr. Sonia Yoo is the Greentree Hickman Chair in Ophthalmology, with a joint appointment in Biomedical Engineering, and is the Associate medical director at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Yoo completed her medical education at Case Western Reserve University and subsequently completed both her residency and fellowship training at the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard U. Her work focuses on surgical and diagnostic advances in refractive cataract and corneal surgery. She holds several patents and has authored more than 150 book chapters and peer-reviewed articles. She has been recognized as the Outstanding Women Leader by Millenial Eye, featured on the Ophthalmologist Power list, and received the prestigious Founder’s Award from the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Dagny Zhu is a Harvard-educated, board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea, cataract, and laser refractive surgery. Dr. Zhu then returned to Southern California to complete her ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute/University of Southern California (USC) + Los Angeles County Medical Center, where she served a predominantly Latino community and cared for the sickest patients at one of the largest public hospitals in the country. Described as a “gifted surgeon” by her mentors, Dr. Zhu elected to complete fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the #1 eye hospital in the world.
